Introducing UltraAPI: Bash bots and secure APIs.

Celebrating One Year as Vercara

Celebrating One Year as Vercara

One year ago today, we introduced Vercara to the world. Our goal was to propel the company into its next phase while retaining the strong heritage that shaped it to that point. The new name, logo, tagline, and fuchsia-led color palette were intended to feel different – both from our previous identity and any other company in the cybersecurity industry. Yet we preserved the Ultra product name, including UltraDNS/UltraDNS2, UltraDDoS Protect, UltraWAF, and UltraDDR, a nod to our 25-year heritage of successfully securing the online presence of brands in the most highly regulated and high-traffic verticals.

Watching the Vercara.com website go live in the early hours of April 5, 2023, followed by a stream of carefully orchestrated communications, was both stressful and exhilarating. But perhaps the most poignant moment was unveiling the brand to our employees. After all, Vercara starts and ends with them. The brand is our employees and the services they deliver in conjunction with our partners and customers. Without them, it’s just a set of ingredients. Fortunately, the team embraced the new brand from day one (swag definitely helped) and understood the significance of their role in carrying it forward.

And carry it forward they did, embracing our brand values at every opportunity. We fulfilled our commitment to innovation with several new offerings that not only enhanced our value to existing customers but also enabled us to enter new markets. UltraDNS TLD and UltraDNS TLD2 extend our flagship DNS solution to the top-level domain (TLD) market, while UltraDNS Private Data Lake offers customers unprecedented access to their DNS data, providing a deeper understanding of their web traffic, cybersecurity threats, and user behavior. Our new UltraSecure plans are specifically tailored for small and medium-sized businesses that want the benefit of a full security suite with DNS, DDoS, and WAF protection, as well as protective DNS. And UltraAPI, our newest offering, covers the entire API protection lifecycle and complements UltraWAF by providing comprehensive WAAP protection.

Beyond the investments we’ve made in innovation, our Security Operations Center (SOC) and support teams have embodied our value that human expertise must augment even the most sophisticated technology, particularly in our high-stakes industry. These teams provide a white-glove experience to every customer we serve. Since the introduction of Vercara, our SOC has thwarted more than 65,000 attacks, including 1,400 mega DDoS attacks (>100Gbps), and partnered with customers to tackle an array of unique security challenges. During the 2023 holiday season, they successfully mitigated a ~930Gbps and 87Mpps UDP flood against a hosting customer. Just last month, another customer was targeted by 1,340 carpet bombing attacks in a single day, and a week later, another ~940Gbps and 284Mpps attack on that customer was successfully mitigated, demonstrating our ability to handle attacks of all sizes and styles.

A small but mighty force, Vercara has made our presence known across various platforms over the past year – through social media, regular blog posts, industry reports, customer engagements, and industry events. At Black Hat 2023, we distributed nearly 1,000 fuchsia t-shirts and, months later, spotted someone wearing one in the Tampa airport. Our European distributor, Distology, featured us in its booth at InfoSecurity Europe, we sponsored Disney’s Data and Analytics Conference and launched UltraAPI at MRC Las Vegas. In a few weeks, we’ll be exhibiting at RSA for the first time as Vercara.

With an exciting roadmap on the horizon and a slew of new programs to support our customers and educate the community, the best is yet to come for this young but proven brand. For today, we pause to celebrate the journey thus far and to thank the employees, partners, and customers who have put their trust in us. While April 5, 2023, may have been launch day for Vercara, it’s the days that followed that have truly defined our identity.
